Patología social

A pie de calle, el grueso de los ciudadanos tiene interiorizada a la perfección la idea de que la forma de ser y de actuar de las personas está determinada únicamente por la biología o la psicología. El propio ser es en todo caso último responsable de sus acciones, y si su actitud aparenta desviada, el diagnóstico es claro: sufre de una patología. Aquí surge la primera incongruencia, y es la cuestión de cuales son entonces los criterios que diagnostican la desviación del individuo si no pasan por ser culturales.

Tradicionalmente ha sido la derecha política la que ha abanderado la creencia de que se trata de patologías el mal que acecha a las personas y que las persuade para obrar mal. De esta manera, la naturaleza malévola del violador o del delincuente se conserva en las entrañas de los genes de cada uno. No hay remedio posible frente a la malicia, la crueldad o la inmoralidad que viene establecida por naturaleza, de nacimiento. En ese sentido ven que la solución idónea para evitar los conflictos en sociedad pase por someter al individuo en cuestión a castigos, ignorando el aspecto social que determina fuertemente la actitud de los individuos en sociedad. Desde la izquierda se ha tenido más sensibilidad en este aspecto, entendiendo que la naturaleza del ser humano es social y siendo, para bien o para mal, lo que nos diferencia como tales. Las vidas y las conductas de las personas están condicionadas por la sociedad en que nos manejamos, siendo determinante el papel de todos los diferentes agentes conocidos como la familia, las tradiciones, los dogmas religiosos, los medios de comunicación.., y en definitiva, la cultura. El primer problema que surge al ignorar tal realidad es el hecho de creernos realmente libres; y el segundo, la incapacidad de ir a la raíz de los problemas, a buscar las causas que llevan al individuo a actuar de una forma u otra.

Ello no conlleva obviar que en términos biológicos solo podemos hablar de la existencia de una raza en el mundo, ni tampoco la importancia de la psicología que desarrolla cada uno de forma particular. Decía Lévi-Strauss que todos pensamos el pensamiento de igual forma, aunque pensemos cosas diferentes. Y es precisamente donde terminan los límites de una base personal y de las características individuales donde toma relevancia la influencia social. Lástima que aun hoy día resulte un fenómeno que no goza de la apropiada consideración, y que sea por ello por lo que la sociología no detenta el estima adecuado. Al menos ya sabemos cual puede ser la patología social más extendida.
